Speech and Language Therapist Orla McGrath will do a talk in the school on May 4th.
There will be two sessions – one from 1-2pm and another from 2-3pm. The talk is for staff and parents and will focus on how to support communication with children with Autism.
The talk will address the following topics:
- Types of language learner in autism – Gestalt processors
- General strategies to support communication in autism
- Communication boards, coreboards and PECS versus visual supports.
She will make this talk as practical as possible and will bring examples of useful resources.
She will not be able to talk about the provision of speech and language services or waiting lists within the time frame of this talk.
