Dear parents, guardians,
Earlier this month, the Department of Education issued guidelines regarding mobile phones in primary schools (see attached). This has been brought to the PTA where we will soon create an action plan based on these guidelines. In the interim, we would like to remind our school community of Powerstown ETNS’ policy regarding pupil phones (see Digital Device Policy).
We kindly request that no mobile phones are taken to school.
We do understand that in some cases, your child not having a phone might not be feasible. However, should your child need to bring a phone to school with them, we would ask that you remind your child that while they are on school grounds, all mobile phones should remain off and in their bag. This includes before 8:20am and after 2:10pm while your child is still on school grounds and after school activities.
We would also ask that you refrain from using your own phone during collection times to help our school become a phone-free zone and set a positive example for our pupils.
We would like to remind parents that no smart watches should be brought to school. Fitness trackers, digital watches etc are perfectly fine but no watches where video/audio recordings can be made, videos watched on the watch itself, or can be used as a calculator (Apple watchOS / Android Wear / Zepp OS).
If your child brings a digital device to school and has it turned on, staff may take it off them and store it in their locked press. Parents/guardians can arrange via the office to call to the school to collect the device.
