On Monday Honeysuckle researched the Mentos and Diet Coke experiement. We learned that it was a physical reaction even though most of us predicted that it was a chemical reaction. We learned that it was happening due to the rough surface of the mentos giving the CO2 plenty of places to attach to. We used the scientific method to hypothesize other rough materials that might cause the same reaction and decided to try it with sand. Unfortunately our experiments did not go to plan. Our sand was wet and clumped when we tried putting it into the bottle and we couldn’t get all 6 mentos into the bottle before the reaction started. This meant we went back to class, evaluated our experiment and what we will change when we repeat the experiment on Tuesday.
