Bullying is being mean to someone over and over again.  Someone could be pushing or hitting pupils, “going at” their stuff, not letting them join in games, calling them names, giving them mean looks,  saying or writing nasty things about them or “making fun” of them.  If this keeps happening it is bullying.

Bullying is always unfair, disrespectful, and wrong.

Nobody deserves to be bullied.

Anyone who knows of bullying behaviour should tell a teacher

 

Department of Education Definition:

Bullying is unwanted negative behaviour, verbal, psychological or physical conducted by an individual or group against another person (or persons) and which is repeated over time.

The following are types of bullying behaviour: deliberate exclusion, malicious gossip and other forms of relational bullying, cyber-bullying and identity-based bullying such as homophobic bullying, racist bullying, bullying based on a person’s membership of the Traveller community and bullying of those with disabilities or special educational needs.

Work in the classroom:

As part of our Anti – Bullying campaign children will be learning about appropriate and inappropriate behaviour. Children will be exposed to our Peer Mediation script to resolve issues, incidents and disputes. Children will be taught the meaning of the word bullying and how to correctly use the word Bullying. All classes will be learning about recognising bullying, rejecting bullying and reporting bullying. Children will alos learn all about cyper bullying.  This work is done through poems, stories, youtube clips, drama and classroom based activities. If you have any questions about the content please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Competitions:

We also have a Slogan Competition and a Drawing Competition for Anti Bullying Month. There will be prizes for each class and winning pictures and slogans will be put in keyrings! To get parents and family friends involved in Anti Bullying Month, these competitions are to be completed at home and entry forms are being sent home on Friday 14th February. Assembly and Presentation:

We will have a Anti-Bullying assembly and presentation on Friday 28th of February from 12.30pm – 1pm and all parents and friends are invited to attend.
