Next Monday 26th September is European Day of Languages and to celebrate it here in Powerstown we’re going to organise some activities that classes can participate in!

On Monday, classes from Junior Infants up to 3rd Class will have a short 15-20 minute language taster lesson with a member of staff! Some of the languages will include Spanish, Hungarian, Polish and Romanian as well as a number of others!

We’re so lucky to have staff who are native & fluent speakers in so many languages who are willing to support this day so thanks so much to them!

We’ll be encouraging children to bring in some delicious dishes from their native country on Monday so classes can hold a food tasting where children can try a variety of foods from different countries.

Finally on Thursday we’ll hold a table quiz in the hall for 4th – 6th class at 10:30 -11:30. The teams will be a mixture of class levels!

Here is a taster of some of the fun activities we will be doing:

There’s also some fun activities and challenges you can do with your class:

The Multilingual Tongue Twister Challenge

How many tongue twisters, in at least 3 different languages, can you manage, more or less correctly, in one minute? Tongue twisters are tricky in one language but 3 or more is certainly not for the faint-hearted! You can prove just how good you are, either individually or within a group, by submitting a video. Check it out here!

‘What’s the Language’ – play a selection of songs and the children have to guess the language! Link Here!

We’re hoping to make it a fun and enjoyable few days for everyone!
