In 5th class this week, we were learning about decimals. Decimals have a lot of different uses in the real world, for example money, weight and length. Using Aldi catalogues, we made shopping lists and calculated how much a weekly shop would cost. We then calculated our change from 50 euro. Next, we added the weights of the products we ‘bought’ to find how heavy our shopping baskets would be. It was really fun to see that maths is all around us and how useful it is! Without knowing our decimals and place value, shopping could be difficult. It motivated us to learn more about decimals.
