As part of geography, history and science this month in the Rose Class – we have been studying the Industrial Revolution and its impacts on farming in Ireland and around the world today. We have also been looking at the impacts of soil fertility and water availability on settlement and city development, making links between farming in Ireland with the Assyrian and Sumerian people of Mesopotamia and Babylon from 3000BC – 539BC.


As part of our learning we examined dairy farming in Ireland, looking at the process from cow to retail. We even became dairy farmers and food production workers making butter from double cream! We made the butter by shaking the cream in a jar and then separated the butter from the smelly, sour buttermilk. We then enjoyed our butter on cream crackers!! Mmmm so yum!
