Members of our Board of Management, including parent nominees, principal and our In School Management Team met today to discuss concerns raised by the school community in relation to the Coronavirus COVID-19

We are in constant contact with the HSE and Department of Education and Skills (DES) and, at this point in time, there is no directive that school events need to be cancelled

The majority of our families voted in our recent poll to continue with school activities, excursions and events.

Therefore swimming, excursions to Fighting Words (Laurel class), our Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations etc will all proceed as planned.

This is an evolving situation and updates will be sent to you via Aladdin as soon as they become available. PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE ALADDIN APP and THE SCHOOL HAS YOUR MOBILE NUMBER.

The most up-to-date information on the management of the virus is available on www.hse.ie

The DES/HSE will issue the official communication about any school closures  directly to the school and we will contact you via Aladdin.

We are in unprecedented times with the management and control of this virus.  The Board of Management has advised that we follow the expert professional guidance of the HSE and implement their recommendations e.g. in relation to any gatherings or events schools may have planned involving external parties.

If you have concerns, please contact the HSE helpline on 1850 24 1850 or 041 6850300.

10 March 2020: Update from Department of Education and Skills

The Department of Education and Skills is liaising closely with the Department of Health on a continuing basis.

Any decision to close schools will be made on public health advice. There is no such advice at this point. It is essential that any decisions regarding responses to Covid-19 are proportionate, necessary and based on specific public health advice. No other response is appropriate.

Public health professionals will contact schools if there is any action to be taken. Schools should not take unilateral action.

Schools, pre-schools and higher education settings  have been provided with advice and guidance in respect of Covid-19. There is up to date guidance for schools and parents on education.ie/covid19.

The Department is  deeply conscious of the significance of decisions concerning school closures, and the potential  impact any such decisions would have on parents, families and the wider community.

This is an evolving situation and the health advice is being updated on a daily basis. The Department of Education and Skills and Department of Health will continue to work closely together on this issue.
